Entity: Evolve Childcare Ltd
Hours: Full Time – 10 x 25-hour shifts (including sleep in) per month.

Part Time – 5 x 25-hour shifts (including sleep in) per month.

Sessional/Bank – Zero hours

Key Responsibilities:

Providing care and support as part of a team for up to 4 looked after children who have been accommodated at Evolve Childcare.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

·         To maintain the development of positive childcare practice in keeping with the aims and objectives of Evolve Childcare.

·         To be aware of all child protection and safeguarding practices, and to report any concerns to the appropriate person.

·         To provide a safe, warm and supportive environment for young people.

·         To ensure the rights and needs of the young people are met as fully as possible.

·         To comply with Company rules, Policies and Procedures and practices and to respond to emergencies which may arise.

·         To promote good relationships between Evolve Childcare and other professional and supporting agencies.

·         To carry out duties in line with the Evolve Childcare Equal Opportunities Policy.

·         To encourage and support, whenever appropriate, contact between young people and their families and significant others.

·         To promote and encourage the education of young people.

·         To accompany the young people on outdoor activities and holidays when required.

·         To encourage a responsible attitude by the young people towards the fabric, furnishings, equipment and all other property within the establishment.

·         To support young people in all domestic and environmental activities.

·         To provide and maintain high levels of cleanliness.

·         To work within Health and Safety guidelines.

·         To carry out household duties, shopping, cleaning, cooking and generally ensuring that the household and outdoor areas are maintained in a safe manner.

·         The position involves some manual handling duties, for example carrying shopping, loading and unloading the washing machine.

·         To maintain a regular, high-quality system of recording in connection with each young person, and to assist in the provision of reports when required.

·         To accept responsibility for monies as may be required in carrying out necessary duties.

·         To complete all required administration of the home, including reporting and recording daily activities, incident reports, missing reports, weekly reports, cash sheets, medication logs etc.

·         To report all matters of concern to the Manager.

·         To deal with telephone enquiries in a professional manner.

·         To receive and take part in regular supervision sessions with the Manager and to participate in performance appraisals.

·         To be aware of fire prevention regulations and be practiced in fire drills.

·         To be a member a team of residential support workers and to attend all team and staff meetings as required.

·         To participate in general activities of the establishment, and to use any personal skills you may have to maximise opportunities for each young person.

·         To provide a positive working role model for other colleagues and the young people.

·         To demonstrate both sensitivity and appropriate assertiveness whilst working in a pressurised environment.

·         To carry out duties of the post in a mature and responsible manner, seeking and receiving support as necessary.

·         To work within any of Evolve Childcare houses as may be required.

·         To physically intervene if a young person’s behaviour is dangerous to others or themselves, in accordance with procedural guidance.

·         To undertake driving duties (for example – trips to school, activities, home visits).

·         To undertake sleep in duties as required.

·         Any other duties as may be required and directed by the Managers.

 

Training

 

This position requires a commitment to undertake training as required.  Training will be in the form of:

 

·         On the job.

·         Attendance on various in-house training days.

·         Completing the CWDC Induction Standards.

·         Studying towards the Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma or any other qualification set by Government Legislation.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience (Essential/Desirable):
·         Candidates should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the needs of young people, particularly those in care.

·         A full manual Driving License is essential.

  • All successful candidates will be safely recruited, which includes background checks, Enhanced DBS check, professional and personal references and previous employment checks.

Experience
Desirable An understanding of residential childcare
Desirable Experience of social or community work
Desirable Experience of working in a children’s residential care environment
Knowledge
Desirable An understanding and monitoring of the child’s care plan
Desirable A knowledge and understanding of the needs of adolescents and their potential
Desirable A knowledge of case working systems
Essential Have good written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Knowledge and commitment of the companies’ equal opportunities policy
Desirable Understanding of childcare theory (child centered approach and the importance of routine, boundaries, consistency)
Desirable Understanding of conflict resolving strategy
Desirable Working knowledge of the Children’s Act 1989
Essential Able to exhibit sensitivity and assertiveness
Desirable An understanding of health and safety in a childcare setting
Skills
Essential Ability to maintain written records, write reports and keep cash records
Essential Ability to relate to young people within and outside the establishment in a tactful way
Essential Practical care skills
Essential Ability to physically intervene if young people’s behaviour is dangerous to others or themselves
Desirable Ability to organise tasks independently and efficiently
Essential Self-motivation
Essential Ability to motivate and engage young people in group activities
Circumstances
Essential To have a flexible approach to working hours, to ensure the needs of the establishment, its young people and staff are properly met
Essential Ability to undertake sleeping in duties as required
Essential Be able to undertake shift work including working weekends and Bank Holidays
Essential Car driver
Desirable Ability to accompany youngsters on holidays with the home

Qualifications
Desirable GNVQ/ TEC/NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care
Essential Basic education – English, Maths and ICT
