  • ‘Skills to Foster’ training session is compulsory for all new carers, ensuring you have the basic skills needed for the job.
  • Training on specialist topics available to help you grow and develop in areas of your interest and to meet the needs of placed children & young people.
  • Work alongside your supervising social worker to grow and develop into your role.

We understand that successful placements and quality care depend on the support offered to our carers. Our training programmes are fully tailored to meet the demanding needs of becoming a foster carer. The bespoke programmes are developed to meet the identified needs of any new carer. We want our carers to feel fully supported and prepared when they decide to join Fusion Fostering.

The training and support doesn’t stop there though. Even experienced foster carers will benefit from ongoing support. That’s why we continue to provide training courses and 24/7 support to all of our registered carers.

The TSDS (Training, Support and Development Standards) sets and defines standards for all foster carers to meet, which form the basis of training we provide – from induction through to on-going development. Our training is based on the requirements stated in the National Minimum Standards 2011, the Children Act 1989 and works towards the Five Outcomes laid out in Every Child Matters.

Five outcomes for children:

Safeguarding children is central to everything we do at Fusion Fostering. To feel safe, be healthy and have the chance to grow, achieve and make a difference in life is what children deserve. Our training is designed to help you achieve these things for all of our children.

Before approval, we offer a ‘Skills to Foster’ training session based on the Fostering Network’s model, this incorporates the TSD training. The ‘Skills to Foster’ training is often delivered over 3 full days where the six modules are covered, which are designed to give you the basic skills needed to progress in the fostering application and be prepared to care for a child/children.

After you have been approved as a registered carer, you will be required to complete courses to ensure your professional development continues. Your appointed supervising social worker will identify along with you what additional training you would need and would benefit from.

The exceptional level of support, full training programmes, generous reward allowances and paid annual leave provision all contribute to our fostering service that is professional and appreciated by those who deliver and use it.
